Another advantage of owning an SKS is that it shoots 7.62X39 ammo, which is one of the best calibers for preppers. A big reason for this is that 7.62×39 is cheap and easy to find. Yugo is heavier, but more accurate and better machined. Yugo's do have some firing pin problems, but can be replaced with a Chinese one for about 5-10 dollars. With cast bullets the minimum load with 1680 which functions the SKS with the Lee .312-155-2R is 16 grs. In the SKS this produces about 1420 f.p.s. and 3" groups at 100 yds.; 18 grs. gives 1630 f.p.s. and 4" groups in the SKS.Military production Chinese Type 56 Carbine - likely 1970’s. It is a post-ban,threaded and pinned barrel- chrome lined, in like new condition/ wooden issue stock w/ cleaning kit and colored after market front sightposts (3). Thinking about an SKS, and noticed that REDACTED has Yugo M59/66 back in stock. Based on pics and reviews, these are usually pretty good quality. Lightly used, well stored millsurp. Anyone have any strong opinions about these compared to other SKS? For ~$400, it seems like one of the better deals available in the current markets..
